Teaching English: Theory and Practice from Kindergarten to Grade Twelve
Editorial Reviews ... Product Description | Donald Gutteridge describes the unique way we read poetry and fiction and offers concrete ideas about how English can be best taught in schools. He argues that students should read literature in the same spirit in which it is written--aesthetically. Similarly, students should be encouraged to create their own stories and poems through a poetic writing process. Teaching English presents six aesthetics-based principles for teaching literature and includes sample lesson plans and annotated...more

Milet Picture Dictionary: English-Polish
Customer Reviews [1] Rating: 5 Date: 2007-10-31 Summary: Nice book, just not for ages 9 -12 ... We have this book in both of our native languages (Polish and Arabic). So, we decided to use the two versions together. Dad sits on one side, and I sit on the other side. Our daughter would point out to a picture and he says the Polish word, then I say the Arabic word. With time, this book helped our daughter associate the picture to the word in both languages; associate each language to each parent and later she would read it with either one of us and fill in the words in the language of the missing parent. It was ...more

Several people bought this book and also the mini version through my links to Amazon... although I did not have even this book in my recommended book list! I thought that there must be something about this book so I ordered it also. I was very pleased when I received it since my daughter loves it! Merriam-Webster's Primary Dictionary
Customer Reviews [1] Rating: 5 Date: 2006-11-21 Summary: Terrific dictionary for 5 - 7 year olds! ... As a teacher of kindergarten and first grade, I heartily recommend this dictionary for the primary age group. This dictionary is aimed at 5 - 7 year olds and is a wonderful resource. It has around 2000 entries, but does not pretend to cover the complete vocabulary of children this age. It is, however, rich in content and appealing in format and appearance. (The illustrations are by Ruth Heller, one of my favorite illustrators for children's books.) The entries include fascinating facts about the origins of words. This ...more

Customer Reviews [1] Rating: 4 Date: 2007-05-15 Summary: Very good ... I use the flashcards with my baby who is 11 months old. We both like them: they are a good baby-book size with nice, simple, colorful pictures. The cards can be wiped off but are a bit thin for baby's hands - he likes to fold and bend them. On the back side one can see how the hand sign is done, which helps me, and my baby also likes to study this. What I don't like so much is how the cards are grouped by topics in each box and that one cannot tell when ordering online which exact words are inside. I found, for example, ...more

[2] Rating: 5 Date: 2007-12-01 Summary: Great for PARENT who might want to teach their children during school breaks ... Great for beginners - however, this book is not necessarily for teachers. I think it may have been written by a teacher for PARENTS to use during school breaks, or during the summer to help their child practice reading sight words. Also, I think that this book is a great help for someone learning English as a Second Language, at any age. I think that this book has great worksheets, but you cant just plop one down in front of a child and expect for them to just do the work. You kind of have to actually make it fun. ...more
[3] Rating: 5 Date: 2007-09-02 Summary: My daughter loves it ... I was amazed to see the bad reviews. Is this workbook more fun than Nintendo? UMMM, no, it is a workbook. I use it to reinforce what we have been learning in other more visually stimulating books. Do look at the pages and notice that the student gets to cut out the letters of the word and paste them for one of the activities. She LOVES that and it gives her practice with her motor skills. This book is a great resource that I use often. The last thing asked is for the child to use the sight word in a sentence. So on ...more
